As the children of Grade 2 were reading play scripts last week, they decided to enact those plays. This was a spontaneous decision and then began the preparation. Initially, it was just meant to be a class performance. However, the enthusiastic bunch of second graders turned it into an event by 'deliriously' getting involved in all the aspects of a theatre. In a couple of days, props were ready, the costumes were decided, the set up was finalised and the lines were rehearsed! Whew! that was an Herculean effort! The teacher took a back seat and the children ran the show! I was extremely proud to see their independence and diligence in handling the whole show. Finally on Tuesday, 27 Feb 2012. they presented their show in their classroom. Three plays were performed - 50 Flavours, A Kid with the Candy and After Once upon a Time - all with a modern setting. The best part was when the third graders were so inspire that they commented: “We will also present a play next time!"
